Saint Abraham’s Classical Christian Academy is a community of learners who seek to love and know the triune God, His Word, and His World. We believe education is about cultivating virtue in the soul of the student, making him or her a better human. Our educational vision and mission is accomplished in a classical and Christian framework, rooted in the Liberal Arts Tradition. What started with 19 students has now flourished into a student population of 100 of learners from TK to 12th grade. A beautiful picture of participation and unity, our community represents a dozen area churches.

HISTORY

By much prayer and resolve, families who cared about the education of their children established St. Abraham’s in 2009. From the beginning, our academy has been committed to the vision of fostering a classically-rooted and discipleship-minded community of learners. 

The first meeting to discuss the inception of the school was held in 2008. For a year, the founding families met over food and fellowship, praying about how we might plant a classical Christian school in Santa Cruz county. Over the course of the next year and as a result of numerous meetings and application processes, Saint Abraham’s Classical Christian Academy was formed. In September of 2009, St. Abe’s opened its doors to 19 students, from Pre-Kindergarten through First Grade. Subsequent grades were added each year, until we had our first graduating class in 2018. St. Abraham’s is now a school of roughly 165 students, serving families Pre-K to 12th grade.

Our Board of Directors, composed of parents, educators, and community leaders, is actively involved in providing vision and oversight for the leadership of St. Abe’s. The Board meets monthly and works to uphold and advance the essential mission, guard the vision and values, and develop a long-term strategy for Saint Abraham’s.

For some time now, I have been convinced of the importance of a comprehensive worldview for Christians. A theology that is for economics and social justice, just as much for Bible study and prayer. Jesus’ lordship is all-encompassing and so every Christian’s worldview should be conscientiously Christian.

Here at St. Abe's we echo the motto which says, “All of Christ, for all of life.” This follows from the Apostle Paul’s teaching in Colossians 1; portions of which say, “For by Him all things were created… all things have been created through Him and for Him… and in Him all things hold together.”

Biblical education stems from the conviction that Jesus is King and we are to ponder God’s thoughts after Him. It means believing Colossians 2:3, “ in (Him) are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge,” and teaching all disciplines in light of that glorious truth. in lumine tuo videbimus lumen … “in your light, we see light.”

Christian schools are not to be distinguished for having chapel services alone. The distinction must be found in having a curriculum and a practice that sees and loves this beautiful world as created and sustained by a loving, living, personal and triune God.

We are to explore and search for how God has imprinted Himself in all subjects and learning. Having recognized God’s imprint in all things, we are to turn towards the goal of all education, which is doxological ... for the worship of the triune God of the Bible.

Our faculty members model joyful learning and count it a privilege to exemplify love for God, His word, and His world. They lovingly instruct our students in the “paideia” of God (Eph. 6:4). They are not simply receptacles of data and facts; they are co-learners and co-laborers in the work of recovering and rebuilding a culture that is once again rooted in the Good, the True, and the Beautiful. Established in 2009, St. Abraham’s is a TK-12 discipleship-focused Christian school that partners with parents in the education of children through the time-tested classical model. We see education not for job training but for the cultivation of virtue and piety, wisdom and eloquence. We believe classical learning and Christian discipleship is the best kind of preparation for any future, whether that means furthering one’s higher education in college or entering directly into the job market.

Academic development is part of the Christian life, fulfilling the call to “love God with all your mind” (Luke 10:27) and to be a community of learners who seeks to love and know the Triune God, His Word, and His world. At a classical Christian school, learning is a way of life, part of being “transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2). Students are not the only ones who learn—parents, teachers, administrators, board members—all are members of that community of learners, all on a journey of “growing in wisdom and stature” (Luke 2:52).

We seek faculty who can model joyful learning, exemplify love for God, His word, His world, and who lovingly instruct children in the “paideia” of God (Eph. 6:4).
